Central New York 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition

Central New York 2018 FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition will be held at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. The competition starts Friday March 2 continues throughout the weekend and is part of an international high school robotics design challenge that boasts over 3,650 teams competing in numerous regional and district events. Approximately 2,500 students from around the world, including their families and mentors, are expected to attend the event hosted by SUNY Poly.

Research has proven unequivocally positive gains by schools involved in FIRST: among these are increased enrollment of students in technical/scientific careers, increased engagement in learning, increased self- esteem and improvement in multiple variables crucial for academic achievement. There are currently over 400 New York State High Schools participating in FIRST programs.

Competitions take place in areas the size of a basketball court. Under strict rules, tight deadlines, and limited resources, allied teams of students put the robots they’ve built to the test against like-minded competitors as they try to outscore their opponents.
